Something often overlooked north of the border is straight walled cartridges... new rounds like the .350 legend can handle out to 200 yards on a deer let alone a coyote. It hasn't run its popularity yet but easily doubles as a deer rifle/varmint rifle. Rounds are cheap making it a great range gun and can get them in bolts/levers.. do a little research on the caliber. Ballistics prove that at 300 yards a 28" drop surely means you wont have to worry AS much as shooting a flat shooter. Take a look at some ballistic charts and go from there. If you're worried about fur quality for preservation look at some smaller calibers. Even a .243 with 55Gr or 60Gr does numbers on them.

Well I narrowed it down to these 2 Models.
Savage is priced well and I do have the 220/ 20 gauge.
Tikka is more expensive and I do have the tx3 Canadian version 30-06 stainless for Moose.
Familiar with both brands.

I'm shooting for the 22-250 models for coyotes.

-Savage® 110 Apex Storm XP Bolt Action Rifle With Vortex® Scope $949.00

-Tikka T3x Varmint Stainless Bolt-Action Rifle $1439.00

Send me your thoughts boys/girls
Credit card is ready for Christmas.

Don't let someone choose for you. Which ever one pulls into your shoulder and fits best is the right rifle for you. For me a firearm is like a glove, it needs to fit properly and feel good. If they are both the same feel and features plus the extra coin is not an issue go for the Tikka before the Savage if your thinking long term ownership. Also don't cheap out on a scope. My first centre fire was a 222 and I hand loaded with 45gr. Hornady SX, many groundhogs laid down to that rifle I wish I still had it.

My vote is also on the Tikka.... it will hold it’s value better than the Savage but they are both good choices.

I don’t want to derail your original thread but I was thinking about the Savage 220 for my son for Christmas and would like to get your opinion or thoughts.

RAM sorry didn't see your question until now. I bought the Remington VTR and put a bushnell scope one of the new ones, Nitro 3-12X44 I believe.

I bought the bolt action Remington VTR in a .22 -.250 as well. Put a Nikon Pro staff 4 - 12 X 40mm scope on it and it is one sweet rig!
Carry it all day , no problem and it is an tack driver.
I use it for ground hog, jack rabbits, fox and coyotes.

I ordered the savage model above. 22-250
Now do any of you use bipods. Thinking of getting a Swagger unit still on their web site now.

22-250 is an excellent choice! But with that you will need good optics and good hearing protection! I have a Stevens model 200 (savage 110 action) and it is the loudest gun I have fired or even been in the presence of and not by a small margin. I would imagine maybe a 220 swift would be louder but I have never had the pleasure. Either way I'm sure you will enjoy and it's one of the coolest things ever seeing the bullet hit paper at 100yds before the scope jumps!

My new toy 22-250 should be arriving next week. Anyone using bipods attached to their rifles or doing other methods of sort.

There is one on mine. A buddy gave it to me and I haven't really used it yet with the bipod on. I highly doubt being a short bipod it will be of much use in the field to me but as it sits I've never used the gun for hunting just playing around so far!

Going out this weekend. So excited and permission granted by two farmers. Here’s my setup. Have it sited at 50 yards inch high.
