Well property owner need some help with a garbage run and figured I'd help with the squirrels to. He hates them around the house and barn. So I brought my 410 with me. didn't see any before garbage run then had cigar with him and went for a walk around house still nothing. took a walk back to just before bush, he has a pond and scrub bush with used to be his back back yard, no just a trail around the area before bush. While walking along the one side of the bush I hear a noise in the scrub. Look over there is a big deer heading for the bush. Never saw one in there all the times I come back from deer hunting in there. Anyway finish the circle and get a squirrel just as I get back to the cut grass, another over a bit but on other property. get up by bark get another but there were 5 and they take off and I can't find them in the pines. Walk back beside barn and get another. Not bad for a quick outing, now to make Squirrel stew.

I have been wanting to try hunting squirrels also with my.22. It sounds like fun and a bit more action than deer hunting. Might be a good post deer season thing.

Used to hunt squirrel all the time when I was a wee fellow and they are absolutely delicious. They are all dark meat and don't laugh but they actually do taste like chicken.

Can you share any recipes guys?
What Disco said above, pressure cook or just simmer in a regular pot until you can pick the meat off the bones. Then add celery, onions, carrots and potatoes chopped up to the size you like. Add water or a can of beef broth or consomme to cover all. Simmer for about 1/2 hour until potatoes are done. You can add a couple tablespoons of roux or regular flour to make a bit of gravy. For my taste, I like adding a bit of thyme and oregano spice. Enjoy and experiment with recipes.

I use a Instant pot for all this as I can do all the steps in one appliance.
Marinade in zesty italian salad dressing for 3-5 days in the refrigerator. Then take out rinse off pat dry and sear them in a cast-iron or grill on a super hot barbeque just to put grill marks. Then take them and put them in a pressure cooker with a little bit of beef oxo broth and Montreal steak spice for about 30 to 40 minutes. After it’s done let it cool. Stain out the meat but save all the broth. Pick all the meat off the bones and keep the meat to one side. Add more beef oxo broth to your beef broth in a slow cooker or pot. Add in your vegetables, potatoes slow cook them until they are done. If you like just as your finishing the slow cook add pasta or rice. When done add you meat back in and thicken for stew or eat as a soup. If you need more flavour just add beef oxo cubes. Don’t add any salt as the beef oxo has enough in it.

I'm about to start my stew Beef and Guinness Stew, but going to use squirrel instead of beef. If it turns out I will post pictures. I have never tried this before,
What I normally do is soak in salted water over night then, boil with onions and seasoning for a couple hours, take them out of the water and let them cool. then I season flour in a bag, squirrel piece go in and shake. Fry in butter. Hard to beat.
