Got my decoys set at about 5:05/5:10 this morning. Got settled in a 5:15. Legal shooting light was 5:27 this morning and I had not heard a single gobble up to that point except WAY WAY to the south of me. At about 5:40 I had two birds north of me gobble. One was much closer than the other. Probably 250 yards out. They gobbled back and fourth before a bunch of hens east of me started making noise. The closest Tom I could not see but knew came down from the roost from the sound of his Gobbles. He was fired up by the hose hens and hit the field Gobbling. I couldn’t see him as there is a row of trees between him and I and the field beyond it drops away from where I was set up. I called once very softly and he gobbled. I left him for 10 mins. He was working his way through the field beyond my view but he gobbled again and just by the sound I knew he was working through the field towards me. I called super soft again and he was coming to find me for sure as he got closer steadily. He gobbled again and he was on the other side of the row of trees still out of sight but less than 50 yards for sure. I gave one last super soft call. He ran through the row of trees and bush and popped out on a trail right dead in front of me. As soon as he saw my half strut Jake he ran to it and started strutting all around it. He was facing straight at me and my gun was in my lap so I waited for his head to be behind my decoy fan. I let him walk by my decoy by 3’ or so and he presented the perfect shot about 15 yards out.
5:55 am I don't think he felt any pain.
