Hey all. Moved out to port Hope back in March. Just figuring out some new hunting opportunities closer to home as I wait for the fields to be cut and Scugog is a little far for my buddy who’s out in havelock. Rice lake seems to be middle ground for what could be good bird hunting, although I’ve never hunted rice. Is anyone able to shed some light on what areas you must avoid? Is it also possible to paddle to spots from launch’s? Or do most areas require a boat ride?

Not sure about rice lake but Brighton is only 30 mins away and has crown land with grouse and woodcock. They like to stick to the thick stuff and flush fast. But if you’re a quick shot you should be able to get one or two if you hunt the obvious spots.

a few years back first day of duck hunting I went to rice lake, right at center of lake next to entrance of otonabee river there is marsh i think it belong to duck unlimited Canada, but the most interesting part was when the hunt start, none stop sound of shots from every where for 1/2 hr. it sound like battle ground.
