The bean crop was late getting cut so we're a bit late starting. Seeing deer but not turkeys; cameras didn't pick up any turkeys, mostly coyotes!
My fourth try tonight, so the brain's advice was to switch fields. A flock of a couple dozen entered and left the far end of the new field. 16 of the birds separated and strutted up a field and past my blind used for the past few hunts. "Probably rang the blind's door bell and ran!" Great weather to be sitting out though.
Last chance tomorrow. I'm hoping not to end with a course of "tag-stew".
Good luck to everyone out for a final chase.

Call Turkey is a luck of the draw IMO.

They don’t respond to calls or decoys. They roam around and if they happen to stumble past you then you get lucky.
I don’t buy a tag but I have had up to 37 in a giant flock walk right up to me while I was deer hunting. One got to within 5’ of me. I watched them all just meander by feeding and irritating each other. Honestly the Jakes were like a bunch of teenage boys all testing each others patience. It was hilarious.

The fall hunt is definitely a different game that spring time. Attracting "love-struck" males is much the game for the spring hunt. And much more doable.

For sure, the fall time is much harder to attract birds. And most of my spring turkey buddies don't bother with the fall season (of course, other game is also in season now to help distract them from turkeys). The calling is also more difficuilt (for me) -- simple clucks, purrs, and yelps are pretty easy to master and are effective. Now using kee-kee and fighting purr calls are much harder to master (for me) and don't always get a commitment (usually some interest, but that doesn't always close the distance). Birds are also grouped up now. You're not seeing those "nomads" wondering solo or in a small group. Food sources are abundant now and further scatter those larger flocks.

It's can be a maddening chess game!

in all my years of deering hunting I have only seen turkeys once and they were a ways away. I would never even think about wrecking my deer hunt to shoot one. Once I have my deer then I will start for squirrels. It is funny that there are no turkeys to be seen in the fall but lots in the spring.

With my experience in the fall they just show up while deer hunting. Last year I shot one while I was deer hunting. This year I also had a chance to take a bird while I was deer hunting. I was highly anticipating a deer to show up so I didn’t take the shot. That was October 4th and I haven’t seen a bird since.
