This morning was cold but the wind was down compared to yesterday and promised to be a better hunting day. I set up 200 yards from a roosted bird that gave us the slip on Monday morning. After very little gobbling he was on the ground and coming . The closer he got the less he gobbled and the more he looked… super cautious! At 50 yards he was working to my right and I had to move the gun slightly when I thought he was out of sight but he picked me off and faded away.
I gave him 15 minutes and tried calling for the next hour but he wasn’t having it. I got up and started putting on miles and called every 500 meters or so. Finally after an hour I heard a faint gobble. I quickly closed the distance and he came to the top of a hill in the bush and gobbled and faded away again. I quickly got to the top of the hill and called and he started coming. There were no suitable trees so I just went prone and the first inkling I had was when he gobbled at 20. I let him walk in to 12 yards and shot. Not a big Tom but a fun hunt. Here’s the pics
