Rough start to the season. Started off real slow. Little activity from the birds had me sitting long hours in the field wondering what the heck is going on. Things took a sharp turnaround the long weekend as the birds seem to be on fire.
Got out Sunday morning and in the predawn darkness somehow managed to get myself positioned close to a hot tom. Every sound be it a goose honk, duck quack, or crow call had him sounding off with double and triple gobbles. At flydown he dropped to the field edge and instead of swing out into the field and circling into the half strut jack decoy he strutted right in passing almost infront of me before going to the decoy. Felt really over gunned holding on him with the full choke 12g load of #5 3" but didn't realize how much till I cleaned the bird.
Wasn't going to buy a second tag but at the last minute went online and snagged a tag as had a bead on a quartet of jakes on another property. Got there again in the predawn hours and stationed myself where I've seen them strut which also was where they enter the field.
Again the morning was a buzz. Had a hen drop down behind me that started calling so I sat back and let her do all the work. Got some vid of the hunt only thing the gopro didn't pick up the hen which was a shame as she gave a great calling lesson.
