on the way to the gun club, I had to stop for 2 hens and 13 poulets about 8" tall. I thought it was 2 families together. One hen finally rounded up the little ones and got them off the road. the other hen went the other way than I notice something moving and there was at least 4 really small poulets, like 4" tall. I put arrows to point out the little ones in the picture

I have also seen hens in the last two weeks with similar sized chicks. They looked to be a couple weeks old which makes them a second nesting effort for sure.
Hopefully they make it through the winter…. we could use more turkeys.

We had some really late frost and super cold mornings this spring which probably resulted in a lot of later nests I’ve been noticing a lot of small ones as well

Saw a hen & 5 or 6 little ones on the Monck rd. yesterday. They were about the size of a Blue Jay which seemed awfully small for this time year. Cheers

I’ve seen 2 or 3 hens with packs of wee ones (blue Jay - grouse size) as well near Huntsville. Odd to me that they walk them along the shoulders of hwy 60 or hwy 11, but what do I know - from the citiots I see driving around here lately maybe that’s the safest place for them, being that a lot of drivers have trouble keeping it on the road anymore. Not a turkey expert or hunter but I figure they gotta be a second batch for the year.
